bight rate
(Noun) A large, often only-slightly-receding bay - like the Great Australian Bight (q.v., 750-1000 miles wide), the Bight of Benin (450-750m miles wide), the New York City Bight (more commonly called Lower New York Bay, and more deeply defined/recessed than usual).
Usage: A bight is often such a shallow dent in a coastline that it's hard to tell where it starts and ends.
