Littoral rate
(Adjective) The part of a water body nearest to the shore. Littoral zone, littoral benthos.
Usually refers to an area with considerable sunlight filtering to the substrate
Usage: The reeds grow mainly in the littoral zone of the lake where there is shelter from th e wind.
