(Noun) A pool of prehistoric natural asphalt gradually leaking to the surface over centuries. When covered with leaves or moss, they regularly trap unsuspecting animals.Usage: The La Brea Tar Pits, in downtown Los Angeles, has yielded the skeletons of mastodons, saber-toothed tigers, etc.
