schola brevis

Definition

schola brevis rate
(Noun) (Latin) A "brief" lecture at the beginning of the school year by the dean on his goals/methods. Today so-called mostly by Jesuit schools, but the
principle's good, and an unadorned "orientation" is more appropriate for freshmen, not upperclassmen.
Usage: For Fordham upperclassmen, schola brevis was basically the dean's policy speech. It could be inspirational for goggle-eyed freshmen, but jejune for seniors.
