Take one for the team rate
(Expression) In baseball, the suggestion to the next batter, usually a poor hitter, to allow himself to be hit by the pitch so as to help the team.
In day to day life, it's when you ask a friend to do something unpleasant to further the cause of the group.
Usage: Team Manager: Come on Miller, we need base runners and you haven't gotten good wood on the ball in a month, we need you to take one for the team.
Friend 1: Come on Bill, I need you to go out with my girlfriend's cousin.
Friend 2: But didn't you say she was really overweight and kind of homely?
Friend 1: Yes, yes, but I need you to take one for the team this time.
