a surprise celebration; an old Aussie custom of banging tin pots & kettles together, and/or throwing them up onto the roof of a newlywed couple, (or new parents, or someone newly into their home) by friends and neighbours, in order to give them one hell of a welcome into their new home.
Usage: A fortnight after we arrived home with the little one half the town turned up one Sunday and gave us a tin kettling!
