Or: shotgun marriage , a marriage into which one or both partners are forced, usually because the bride is pregnant.(Noun) A marriage into which the male is forced because his female mate is pregnant and her father stands by to shoot him if he does not marry her. Associated with use in Appalachia.
Usage: He was hesitant to marry his girlfriend, but her father provided the impetus by turning it into a shotgun wedding.
