q.v.

Definition

q.v. rate
(Abbreviation) Abbreviation for the Latin quod vide, generally used in the context of "described elsewhere in this document". In the days before document production systems could do cross-references by page number, use of this abbreviation removed the need to do proofreading of every cross-reference to verify that it named the correct page. It is a means of condensing a definition or explanation so that material which already exists does not have to be replicated. In online documents, this is superseded by the use of hyperlinks.
Usage: In a printed document, a reference might be of the form "...this is superseded by the use of hyperlinks (q.v)."
