(Noun) the head of a family in karate circles, description or title awarded to a karate sensei after they have promoted significant serious people to black belt status. A dojo owner and shihan of karate-do who promotes/recognizes black belt status of individuals who train in a karate dojo.
Usage: Ansei Ueshiro awarded the "kancho" to his longest active student/dojo owner.
Kancho was asked to attend the demonstration and present the certificates.
After the organization of karate business was settled, the true kancho was presented the One Way Bamboo recognition for past efforts.
