Definition

A lockable device fitted around genital area of a wife to ensure her fidelity or on a daughter to guard her chastity; in the 19 ^th century, to prevent young women from masturbaring. The chastity belts available today from sex- and mail order shops are sex toys designed, not to ensure chastity, but rather to thwart sexual pleasure, prolong foreplay, heighten arousal and invite a lovers violation. Synonym: girdle of purity. Chastity belts were also known as: drawers of iron, Florentine girdle, full pudenda, girdle of Venus, padlock of purity, partial pudenda.
