1. Or: clean up / clean it up , a warning or admonition, among gay men, to affect a more manly comportment when the situation warrants it as in the presence of strangers or when homophobes and rednecks are lurking about; to make an effort or a pretence to be butch.

2. In gayspeak, to exaggerate masculine or macho behaviors for the entertainment of others; the opposite of camp it up. Antonym: camp it up.
