A papulo-pustular skin condition, especially in the face and neck, characterized by comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules, pustules, and pimples, due to an increased production of sebun (oil) from the sebaceous glands during the hormonal changes of puberty and adolescence. Frequent washing of the skin with soap and water helps to unclog the pores; noninflammatory lesions often respond to over-the-counter creams and lotions; inflammatory lesions require the attention of a dermatologist. Treatment includes topical and oral antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, benzyl benzoate, retinoic acid, and topical vitamin A derivatives.
