(Abbreviation) Vydyne 20N
V-2 rate
(Noun) The semi-formal name for a Nazi 1945 guided missile that was used to bombard London and other British cities. The V-2 was more terrifying than the V-1 because it didn't "cut out" - hence giving at least brief warning - but simply whooshed down with a massive payload.
Usage: Mort Sahl forever skewered Werhner von Braun (the V-1's and V-2's principal designer) by saying that the full title of I Aim at the Stars, von Braun's autobiography, was I Aim at the Stars But Mostly Hit London.
