do the deed / do the dirty deed / deed of sex / deed of kind / deed of pleasure , dated literary euphemism for copulation; used in that sense by Geoffrey Chaucer (ca. 1343-1400) in The Canterbury Tales and by his contemporaries. See copulation for synonyms. Dirty deed has survived. Quote: Babs (Martha Smith) to Mandy Pepperidge (Mary Louise Weller) in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978): ' Are you and Greg doing the dirty deed or not? '
